چکیده
“Hyper-redundant” robots have a very large or infinite degree of kinematic redundancy. This paper develops new methods for determining “optimal” hyper-redundant manipulator configurations based on a continuum formulation of kinematics. This formulation uses a backbone curve model to capture the robot’s essential macroscopic geometric features. The calculus of variations is used to develop differential equations, whose solution is the optimal backbone curve shape. We show that this approach is computationally efficient on a single processor, and generates solutions in O( 1) time for an N degreeof-freedom manipulator when implemented in parallel on O( N ) processors. For this reason, it is better suited to hyper-redundant robots than other redundancy resolution methods. Furthermore, this approach is useful for many hyper-redundant mechanical morphologies which are not handled by known methods.

متن کاملPASO: An Integrated, Scalable PSO-based Optimization Framework for Hyper-Redundant Manipulator Path Planning and Inverse Kinematics
Hyper-redundant manipulation is the use of a hyper-DOF robotic system to accomplish tasks such as picking, placing, reaching, and exploring in challenging environments. Hyper-redundant manipulation involves both finding collisionfree configuration-space paths (the path planning (PP) problem) and transforming a given workspace target pose into a configuration space goal (the inverse kinematics (...

This paper puts forward a novel design solution for building a 3D hyper-redundant chain robot (HRCR) system, which consists of linked, identical modules and one base module. All the joints of this HRCR are passive and state controllable, and share common inputs introduced by wire-driven control, no matter how many degrees of freedom (DOF) are implemented using different numbers of modules. The ...

متن کاملTowards a Hyper-Redundant Haptic Display
This paper discusses how to utilise the known advantages of redundancy in the design of haptic interfaces. The use of additional joints allows a significantly larger workspace, while reducing the overall device size. Moreover, an increase in a variety of dexterity measures and a singularity robust redundancy resolution can be achieved. Besides a review of standard redundant kinematical designs ...
